Equality, diversity and inclusion

Leeds
Leeds City Council
Posted: 10 October
Offer description

Overview

An inclusive organisation built on strong values. We believe that our council should fully reflect the diverse city it serves, with an inclusive workforce that represents everyone in Leeds. Central to our values is our commitment to treat people fairly, respect all and root out inequality and discrimination. We value difference and encourage everyone to be the best version of themselves at work. We are an inclusive employer supporting you all the way, from the moment you apply to join our team throughout your time working with us. We are proud to participate in national benchmarking schemes that promote and recognise good employment practice and inclusive workplaces.

Staff networks

An inclusive culture has people at heart. People who feel understood, able to be themselves and who have a voice. Our staff networks amplify that voice and offer peer support and a safe space to colleagues who associate with a particular theme through lived experience or allyship. The networks play a vital role at organisational level too, promoting awareness of issues, empowering underrepresented groups and driving cultural change.

* Carers network, for anyone balancing work with unpaid caring roles, with linked super families group supporting parents and carers of children with additional needs or health conditions
* Disability and wellbeing network, supporting staff with disabilities, long-term health conditions, mental health issues, carers and allies; with a linked neurodiversity peer support group
* Healthy minds group, a safe space for anyone with mental health needs, those supporting others or who have an interest in mental health to share experiences, listen, and boost wellbeing
* LGBT+ network, a supportive and inclusive staff group welcoming those who identify as LGBT+ and their allies
* Race equality network, a safe arena for colleagues from ethnically diverse backgrounds to build connections, share discussion and celebrate heritage and commemorative dates
* Women’s voice, a network for women to discuss and support each other on issues affecting them at work, from health and wellbeing to career progression and eradicating misogyny
* Military family support group, offering peer support to armed forces service leavers, veterans, reservists and their family members
* Care experienced staff network, for those with lived experience as care leavers or who have personal experience with the care system as children or young adults, and allies supporting those with care experience or kinship carers
* Faith and belief hub, with Christian, Jewish and Muslim staff networks
* Careers advancement network, supporting colleagues in the early stage of their career to build connections and raise their profile across the council, and share learning and development
