Thank you for your interest in applying for the role of Deputy Headteacher - Curriculum, Teaching and Staff Development at Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent. I am delighted that you are interested in joining us at such a crucial point in our evolution. This role has arisen because of the promotion of the current exceptional incumbent to Headship at another of our Trust academies. This is a rare opportunity to take on the role of Deputy Headteacher and have a real impact on the life chances of our community. With a PAN of 270 in each year group, we are a large secondary academy serving Tunstall in the north of Stoke-on-Trent. We are routinely over-subscribed and the school of choice for our community. This really matters. As a founder member of the Co-op Academies Trust our mission is to work in the service of making sure our community has the very best academy, so that our young people can overcome disadvantage to achieve success.


About the Role

Working with the Headteacher, the Deputy Headteacher Curriculum, Teaching and Staff Development will be the key strategic lead for delivering the highest standards of pedagogy, practice and staff development; the postholder will be accountable for ensuring the Academy is well positioned to be judged at least at the “strong standard” in this area. The post-holder will be expected to contribute substantially to strategic planning, whole‑Academy evaluation, quality assurance, and ensure there is a proactive response to emerging needs and priorities. Equally, the post-holder will be expected to scan the horizon and position the Academy successfully to manage both statutory changes and evolutions in sector thinking. Furthermore, the post-holder will be the strategic lead for all areas of staff development and improvement, both teaching and support staff. This role will ensure students receive an education, and leave the Academy with exceptional outcomes and best positioned to succeed in their future learning.


Responsibilities

* Ensure a proactive response to emerging needs and priorities.
* Scan the horizon and position the Academy successfully to manage statutory changes and evolutions in sector thinking.
* Lead all areas of staff development and improvement, both teaching and support staff.


Qualifications

* Degree and teaching qualification
* NPQSL/NPQH
* Strong track record of further professional development in the last two years & evidence of impact.
* Accreditation as an Ofsted inspector - Desirable


Required Skills

* Forensic knowledge and understanding of educational thinking
* Knowledge of the most effective approaches to curriculum, assessment and pedagogy.
* Understanding of optimal models of staff development.
* A comprehensive and forensic knowledge of the Ofsted toolkit.
* Experience of aspects of school operations and processes beyond current role.
* Knowledge of how to argue, persuade and convince people of the need for change.
* The ability to deliver and embed change that meaningfully and positively delivers impact.


Preferred Skills

* Evidence of clear impact on student outcomes over time (multi-year)
* Effective implementation of strategies and initiatives as an AHT or DHT.
* Recent evidence of whole-school impact specifically in relation to teaching and learning.
* Evidence of ability to manage change effectively.
* Evidence of being able to lead, motivate, and challenge to deliver improvement.
