About Our School

Welcome to Selwyn Hall School, a vibrant new SEN school nestled in the beautiful surroundings of Foxton, South West of Cambridge. We specialize in providing tailored education for 7-18 year olds facing social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Our pupils may have various diagnoses, including ASD, ADHD, FASD, anxiety, and other learning needs.

Our unique approach features small group sizes of just 4-6 children, ensuring that every pupil receives the personalized attention they need to thrive. Our expansive private grounds create a therapeutic environment, perfect for outdoor learning experiences such as forest school, sports, and sensory trails. Inside, our fully refurbished building boasts a variety of classrooms and activity spaces for science, computing, music, drama, and Art/DT.

As part of the Polaris Community, we have been dedicated to transforming the lives of young people for over 30 years. With six SEN schools across the UK, we collaborate to provide each pupil with a diverse and supportive education that promotes engagement and inspires achievement. All our provisions are rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a vital member of our team, you will:

* Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils.

* Assist the Classroom Teacher during lessons.

* Report on pupils' progress and collaborate with staff to meet their needs.

* Supervise pupils during non-classroom activities, including extracurriculars and school trips.

* Help with lesson planning and classroom preparation.

* Set and mark work as appropriate.

* Build positive relationships with pupils to drive engagement and learning outcomes.

To thrive in this role, you should have:

* A strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with at least GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.

* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.

* Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting.

* Confidence to take on additional responsibilities in areas such as Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, or School Yoga.

* Skills in behaviour management and techniques.

* A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.

* Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting work.

What We Offer You

At Selwyn Hall School, we believe in nurturing not just our pupils, but our staff too. Here’s what you can expect:

* Support for your professional development through a variety of opportunities.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, with the cost covered by Selwyn Hall School.

We are an equal opportunities employer and encourage applications from all qualified candidates. Selwyn Hall School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment.
