We are looking for highly motivated university students with a clear passion for engineering and innovative technology, keen to gain skills and knowledge in a fast‑paced design, development and manufacturing environment. The placement is 12 months long and offers real‑world, hands‑on experience within an exciting, market‑leading company.
As part of dedicated engineering teams on customer projects, you will be mentored and coached throughout your placement. You will have the freedom to innovate and develop solutions to real challenges, choosing an individual project that will culminate in a report and presentation to satisfy your academic requirements.
Responsibilities
* Develop an understanding of axial‑flux motor technology and key manufacturing methods.
* Design: use engineering software (CAD, Finite Element Analysis) to design and assess e‑motor components and assemblies, considering structural, vibration and thermal duty.
* Development: contribute to understanding mechanical and thermal behaviour of the motor and relevant subcomponents; develop components and conduct hands‑on testing to aid product development.
* Manufacturing: evaluate manufacturing processes, design and conduct research programmes; apply knowledge of product design, testing, assembly, tooling and materials; liaise with equipment vendors.
* Innovation: develop core mechanical engineering knowledge including materials, data acquisition and analysis, computer‑aided design; assist mechanical and electromagnetic designers to ensure NVH‑compliant design.
* Test: execute test plans to prove functionality, performance and durability; liaise with external test houses, produce reports and maintain agreed schedules.
