The Role – Senior Ecologist:
The successful candidate will:
* Conduct a variety of ecological surveys, including protected species surveys and habitat assessments (UKHab).
* Prepare comprehensive ecological reports, such as Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
* Utilize ornithology specialism – experience scoping and undertaking breeding and non-breeding bird surveys for large sites.
* Advise clients on ecological constraints, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
* Collaborate with landscape planning and arboriculture teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
* Support the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and planning applications.
* Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Contribute to fee proposals and tender documents.
Requirements:
* A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
* A minimum of 2 years’ experience in ecological consultancy or equivalent experience.
* Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies.
* Proven experience in conducting and leading a variety of ecological surveys.
* Working knowledge of UKHab survey techniques and Statutory BNG.
* Desired experience using GIS to produce highly accurate digital outputs (QGIS).
* Excellent report-writing skills with attention to detail.
* Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards it.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
* A full UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites.
