Working Schedule: 37 hours per week. University days are normally a Friday, where you would attend University in person or virtually. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the Thales working days, on site in Glasgow or working from home where suitable.

Thales Glasgow designs a range of state‑of‑the‑art optronics solutions for the most technically advanced defence and security platforms in the world. As an Electronics Engineer, you will work as part of a development team and be responsible for technical contributions to leading‑edge naval or vehicle‑based products. This is a great opportunity to work on state‑of‑the‑art defence equipment and develop the latest optical systems for the MoD and a wide range of export customers around the world.

Apprentice Programme
As an Electronics Engineering Apprentice you will study at the University of Strathclyde towards a BEng (Hons) in Engineering: Design & Manufacture. Over four years you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our Engineering function in Glasgow. Years 1 and 2 cover core modules in Mathematics and Numerical Tools; Design and Production; Mechanical Engineering Systems; and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Years 3 and 4 develop higher‑level cognitive skills, professional competencies and transferable skills via two 60‑credit project modules with optional specialisation.
You will be given one day per week to focus on your studies. For the other four days you will work in the business, applying your university learning in a real‑life engineering environment. Upon completion of the programme you will move into a permanent role within Thales in Glasgow. The degree course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institution of Engineering Designers.
Requirements
* 4 Highers (BBBB) including Maths
* Must live and work in Scotland for the duration of the programme
* For those who do not achieve their Maths Higher in 2026, a 9‑week Maths course will be required starting in April 2026.
* Thales UK offer conditional on Strathclyde accepting you onto the programme
* Must possess the permanent right to work in the UK and will be required to obtain Government security clearance at BPSS level and full Security Clearance (SC) prior to starting

Recruitment Process
Assessment centres for shortlisted candidates will be held between February – May 2026. Induction week for all graduates and apprentices will take place from Monday 7 September to Friday 11 September 2026.
Security Clearance
All successful candidates must possess permanent right to work in the UK, undergo Government security clearance at BPSS level and obtain full Security Clearance (SC) prior to starting. SC clearance is typically available to those who have resided in the UK for the last five years.
