Role summary
The RGC Academy Coach will support all RGC Academy activity in the Talent Development Phase (17-18 yrs) and Performance Development Phase (19-20 yrs), with a primary responsibility for the development of forwards set piece skills. They will also support academy talent identification and development principles, and contribute to the WRU strategic objective of developing more and better players for the professional game and for Wales through life-enriching experiences.
Salary: £28,000 – £35,000
Location: Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay, North Wales
Hours of work: 35 hours per week. Willingness to work unsociable hours (evenings and weekends) and some time away from home.
Reporting to: RGC Academy Manager
Contract: Fixed term (15 months, with potential extension), full time. Subject to a 6-month probationary period

The Person
* WRU Level 3 Coaching Qualification and registered/recognised as a WRU Performance Coach
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience coaching in a performance rugby environment (Regional or higher)
* Proven track record of supporting the development and preparation of players for professional and/or international rugby
* Understanding of the developmental needs of male players aged 14 to 20 yrs, including educational, vocational, and social factors influencing elite young players; a holistic approach to development
* Confident, empathetic leader with strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; able to lead by example in creating engaging, high-performance learning environments
* Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships and networks across stakeholders to achieve shared goals
* Self-directed and team-friendly
* Welsh language communication is desirable
The Role
Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities
* Curriculum Delivery: Collaborate to shape a structured, age-appropriate development curriculum (14-20 yrs), prioritising technical skills, tactical understanding, teamwork and positive behaviours. Assist in planning, coordination and delivery of technical and tactical content for the Talent Development Phase (17-18 yrs) and Performance Development Phase (19-20 yrs), with primary responsibility for forwards set piece skills.
* Performance Monitoring: Establish long-term Individual Development Plans for Junior (17-18 yrs) and Senior (19-20 yrs) Academy players. Track, assess and review development using observation, feedback and performance data to drive improvement.
* Talent Identification: Identify and nurture high-potential players to ensure a strong pipeline into Wales’ Pathway teams and professional clubs.
* Collaboration and Relationships: Support Academic Partners teams and players as required; develop relationships with academic and commercial partners as needed.
* Coach Development: Support RGC Academy U18 and U16 coaches and deliver Pathway Coach Education tasks as required.
* National Alignment and Coaching Support: Support Wales-wide initiatives related to the Men’s Performance Pathway; actively participate in the WRU Pathway team; promote a positive culture aligned with WRU and RGC standards and values; perform duties in support of WRU Group Mission, Purpose and Values.

WRU Requirements
* Valid UK driving licence
* Enhanced DBS disclosure required and regularly reviewed
* Proficiency in IT skills (Microsoft products); excellent written and verbal communication; ability to build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
