About The Role
Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Senior MEP Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a major MEP works package on the StAndrews New College development for the University of StAndrews.
This is a high‑profile higher‑education project, combining listed‑building refurbishment and new‑build academic accommodation, delivered by Balfour Beatty Regional Scotland with the MEP scope managed through Balfour Beatty MEP Scotland’s packaged delivery model.
The role is ideal for an experienced MEP commercial professional who thrives in complex, multi‑interface environments and wants exposure to a flagship project with long‑term career progression.
The Project – StAndrews New College (MEP Works)
You’ll play a key role in the commercial management of the MEP works package, covering mechanical, electrical and public‑health services across both refurbished heritage buildings and new academic facilities.
The MEP Scope Includes
* Full building services installation and integration
* Plant rooms, power infrastructure and controls
* Services to lecture theatres, teaching spaces, research areas, offices and public‑facing facilities
Delivery is through multiple specialist subcontract packages, requiring strong commercial control, change management and close coordination with build, architectural and conservation teams in a live university environment.
This is a commercially critical MEP package, central to programme certainty, value delivery and successful handover aligned to academic occupancy dates.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities
* Take full commercial responsibility for allocated MEP subcontract packages
* Manage cost reporting, forecasting, CVRs and final accounts
* Lead procurement and commercial management of MEP subcontractors
* Identify, price and agree variations and change events
* Manage cash flow, valuations and applications for payment
* Maintain robust commercial records to support change, claims and risk management
* Work closely with project, design and construction teams to manage interfaces
* Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty commercial standards and governance
* Support project reviews, reporting and stakeholder engagement
Who we're looking for
Essential
* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor on MEP or building services packages
* Experience working within a Tier‑1 main contractor or major MEP contractor environment
* Strong understanding of commercial management, procurement and subcontract administration
* Experience managing complex MEP scopes on projects typically £10m+ in value
* Confident managing change, risk and cost certainty in live project environments
* Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills
* Proficient with commercial reporting systems and MS Office
* Valid CSCS card
Desirable
* Professional membership or working towards (RICS, CIOB, CIBSE or equivalent)
* Experience in refurbishment‑led or heritage‑sensitive projects
* Exposure to BIM‑enabled commercial reporting
