Purpose
You will be responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of multiple frameworks and projects covering the Midlands and South regions of the UK, ensuring the frameworks and projects deliver the expected contract margin for BGEN Ltd while providing excellent and efficient service. You will be commercially responsible for multiple frameworks and act as a key contact between the commercial manager and the existing commercial teams. Additionally, you will oversee 3 apprentice Quantity Surveyors.
Location
Based at a BGEN regional office in Penketh, with occasional travel to other regional offices, client sites, and vendor sites.
Dimensions
Provide commercial support across the Technology project portfolio, typically up to 350 projects ranging from £1K to £5M.
Organisation
Report to the Commercial Manager and liaise with Key Account Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, Resource Managers, and clients. Collaborate with other BGEN SBUs to support Group opportunity contracts.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, submit, and agree on interim valuations, variations, final accounts, weekly progress reports, subcontract payment certificates, and cost value reconciliations.
* Ensure adherence to contractual notice submissions.
* Manage subcontract costs, labour, materials, plant, and prelims costs, using internal databases to monitor project expenses.
* Control risk management techniques.
* Manage subcontract orders, tenders, and pre-contract information.
* Monitor material purchases to stay within tender allowances.
* Ensure commercial delivery aligns with contract margins.
* Report cost overruns or risks to the Framework Key Account Manager & Commercial Manager.
* Conduct contract reviews and negotiations per company policies.
* Provide commercial guidance to project teams, suggest improvements, and promote innovation.
* Produce reports on CVR, Cashflow, WIP, and identify threats and opportunities.
Essential Skills and Features
* Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Project.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or related field, with recent experience in a similar role.
* Experience with operational management systems (e.g., ERP) is preferred.
* Working towards MRICS membership, with a solid understanding of cost management, contract administration, and financial reporting.
