English Teacher

Key Stage: KS3 and KS4
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and deliver inspiring English lessons that meet the needs of learners with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and SEND.
* Differentiate content to ensure access to learning for students with a range of abilities and educational gaps.
* Promote literacy development through engaging, creative teaching strategies.
* Set clear academic and personal progress targets, using assessment to track and adapt learning.
* Collaborate with the wider team (TAs, SENCO, therapists) to support students holistically.
* Foster a safe, inclusive, and trauma‑informed classroom environment where students feel respected and valued.
* Contribute to behaviour management strategies and positive behaviour plans.
* Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues, maintaining high standards of safeguarding and professionalism.
Must‑Have Skills & Qualifications
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Experience teaching English at KS3/KS4 level
* Passion for inclusive and therapeutic education
* Understanding of SEMH needs, trauma‑informed practice, and how these impact learning
* Strong classroom management and communication skills
* Ability to inspire, motivate and re‑engage disengaged learners
Good to Have
* Experience working in a specialist or alternative provision setting
* Familiarity with functional skills and/or GCSE English curriculum
* Knowledge of EHCP processes and individual learning plans
* Experience working collaboratively with support staff and multi‑disciplinary teams
* Training in de‑escalation strategies or positive behaviour support (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA)
