We are seeking a Band 6 Gastroenterology Specialist Dietitian for a maternity cover fixed-term contract of 12 months, starting in November 2025, to join our gastroenterology dietetic team.
While the ideal candidate will have Gastroenterology skills, we will consider those with suitable transferable skills, such as parental nutrition management.
The post involves managing a caseload of adult Gastroenterology patients with complex needs, using evidence-based and client-centered principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
The caseload includes both inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.
The dietitians work closely with the gastroenterology multidisciplinary team (MDT) and are integral members of the team.
We have a well-established dietetic-led adult Coeliac clinic with weekly MDT meetings, attend IBD MDTs, and manage a large number of patients on polymeric diets. Our IBS service employs online resources, group sessions, and one-to-one clinics for dietary advice.
You will join a team of four Gastroenterology Specialist Dietitians.
This role is based at Royal Blackburn Hospital. Clinical support and supervision will be provided by a Band 7 Specialist Dietitian, along with Band 6 peers.
Responsibilities include assessing, implementing, and monitoring complex nutrition regimes, including enteral and parenteral nutrition, attending consultant ward rounds and MDT meetings, working closely with the Trust's Nutrition Team, triaging and managing outpatient caseloads with support, and participating in clinical training for students and healthcare professionals.
The Gastroenterology Dietetic team is part of the wider Acute Adult team within the East Lancashire Hospitals Dietetic Department, which covers inpatient and community services across East Lancashire. The department, comprising nearly 90 staff, is known for innovation, development, and training.
