Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner in Emergency Care
Responsibilities include:
1. Accountability for own clinical practice and caseload management, working independently under supervision to implement OT treatments and progress patients.
2. Development and implementation of OT treatment programmes, setting person-specific goals for patients and carers.
3. Recognising deterioration and modifying treatment accordingly, assessing activities of daily living and cognitive impairments.
4. Teaching the use of specialist rehabilitation equipment related to mobility and function.
5. Carrying out psychological interventions such as active listening and problem solving.
6. Applying appropriate slings/braces within guidelines, providing education on injury management.
7. Planning and managing own patient caseload in emergency care.
8. Being the first point of contact when appropriate, gathering social history from patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
9. Communicating complex condition-related information effectively, considering communication difficulties such as aphasia or dementia.
10. Promoting patient independence and functional restoration during illness or disability.
11. Effectively communicating with patients and carers, overcoming barriers like hearing loss, cognitive or perceptual issues, pain, or dementia.
12. Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and discharge planning.
13. Completing functional assessments in various environments, including patients' homes.
14. Working independently under supervision of a HCPC registered occupational therapist to perform procedures and treatment plans.
