We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team of dedicated friendly CT and MRI Radiographers at Scunthorpe General Hospital.
We are a district general hospital performing a wide range of CT and MRI examinations.
We are looking for highly motivated Radiographers with a willingness to share their knowledge. The role includes the supervision/training of junior staff.
We are passionate about providing exceptional patient care. Candidates must be HCPC registered and would ideally hold a Postgraduate Certificate in CT and/or MRI imaging. The ability to perform intravenous cannulations is essential
We are a busy department open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, we work 3 12.5 hour shifts a week. This post requires working a variety of shifts in response to the service needs of our CT and MRI service.
The main requirement for this role is for the base site to be at Scunthorpe General Hospital and Scunthorpe Community Diagnostic Centre. Flexibility is required, there may be opportunities to work across our other hospital sites.
Main duties of the job
1. Perform high standard clinical duties as required, in line with current departmental protocols, providing high-quality imaging and patient care.
2. This lead radiographer will in the event of resuscitation and anaphylaxis, working as part of a team that are trained to ILS level, be responsible for and ensuring the correct processes, procedures and associated records are maintained.
3. Demonstrate specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of CT and/or MRI.
4. Manage the outpatient and inpatient workload. Required to allocate and reallocate workloads within the team to ensure patient deadlines are met and patient breaches avoided
5. Understand the vetting and protocolling of requests and know when to seek Radiologist advice
6. Undertake justification of referrals in line with IR(ME)R and department protocols
7. Provide a highly specialised technical/clinical service using CT and/or MRI and scanning equipment to aid diagnosis
8. Communicate complex information effectively to a wide range of stakeholders including patients and their families or carers.
9. Develop and maintain skills in cannulation and admin of contrast media
10. Work in close liaison with radiology staff, Radiologists, clinicians, nurses and others
11. Adhere to Ionising Radiation Regulations IR(ME)R2000, local rules, ensuring all examinations are justified in accordance with local protocols
12. Assist in the training of Radiographers, students, APs and HCAs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be a CT and/or MRI Radiographer – Lead Radiographer in the event of resuscitation and anaphylaxis, working as part of a team that are trained to ILS level, being responsible for and ensuring the correct processes, procedures and associated records are maintained.
Trained to ILS standard, enabling Radiographer led contrast examinations without direct medical supervision. Ensuring all processes are in place and followed each day, all appropriate medication is available, all appropriate paperwork is completed, training is up to date and where required scheduled as well as any other duties relating to this clinical lead role.
The radiographer will maintain effective communication and productive relationships with all stakeholders, upholding the reputation of the Directorate and speciality at all times.
They will undertake and perform diagnostic imaging examinations requested to a high level of radiographic skill. The post holder should be
willing to work both within a larger hospital-based team and a smaller Community Diagnostics integrated and multi-skilled team. The department offers a seven-day service to its stakeholders and there is a requirement that the post holder takes part in this rota and any nights or future shift systems.
We have well-developed equipment; 64 slice CT scanners, and 1.5T MRI scanners at each site, and the Trust investment programme continues to demonstrate commitment to service improvement. Scunthorpe's Blue Sky Imaging Suite opened in August 2012, and is a purpose-built cross-sectional imaging suite, housing 3 GE 64 slice CT scanners these are also and 2 MRI scanners, a GE wide bore 1.5T and a 1.5T Siemens MRI Scanner.
At our new CDC in the town centre we have 2 GE 64 slice CT scanners and 1 GE 1.5T MRI Scanner housed within a purpose built facility to allow patients to access their diagnostics tests in a easily accessible facility.
As a Trust, we are actively committed to CPD, and encourage people to widen their scope of practice, currently having radiographers performing IV cannulation, radiographer reporting and Radiographer-led CT colonography. We have a comprehensive induction programme, which is directly linked to a competency-based structure.
The department actively encourages CPD and supports post-graduate certificate training.
