About us
Owing to an internal promotion, we have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to support proactive fraud investigations as part of a successful and well-regarded corporate counter fraud team. The team currently investigates cases of fraud, error and debt in areas such as council tax (including council tax support and council tax exemptions), business rates, blue badges and social care. We are also looking to undertake work in other risk areas including procurement and insurances, as well as providing support to any internal investigations that may arise.
The role
As well as providing support to investigations, you will be involved in designing out fraud risks in systems, developing the use of data analytics, facilitating information-sharing, both internally and externally, and supporting training and awareness-raising across the organisation.
A key part of the job will be to deliver positive outcomes for the council and for taxpayers through the identification of fraud, debt and error. This will also involve working with other public sector partners such as the police, the Department for Work and Pensions, the NHS and Housing Associations.
What's needed?
You will ideally be currently working in a counter fraud or compliance environment in any sector or will have academic or professional experience of applying data analysis tools and techniques. As well as being a highly motivated and effective team worker, you will be an original thinker, able to analyse data, identify new risks and investigate areas of non-compliance.
The successful candidate will work in a team that covers Salford and Warrington, as part of a joint working arrangement between Salford City Council and Warrington Borough Council. We will provide formal training through the Level 4 Counter Fraud Investigator apprenticeship, supported by practical experience that will enable you to obtain the Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist qualification, which will open the doors towards further career progression.
