CNC Turner Setter Operator
Shift
Monday to Wednesday 4.30pm to 3.30am & Thursday 4.30pm to 2am
Job Purpose
To set up, and operate CNC lathes to manufacture precision components in accordance with engineering drawings and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
* Interpret engineering drawings, models, and technical specifications
* Set up and operate CNC turning machines, including tooling selection, workpiece fixturing, and setting tool offsets.
* Optimize machining processes to improve cycle time, surface finish, and tool life.
* Conduct first-off and in-process inspections using appropriate metrology tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, CMM).
* Ensure manufactured components meet drawing tolerances and quality standards.
* Adjust and modify programs as needed based on feedback from machining and inspection.
* Perform routine machine maintenance and report issues to maintenance staff.
* Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve technical issues.
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping and comply with health & safety regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
* Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering / Machining.
* Proven experience in CNC turning - setting, and operating.
* Strong knowledge of CNC control systems (Fanuc)
* Experience with CAD/CAM software (desirable).
* Familiarity with precision measurement tools and inspection processes.
* Experience working with various materials (steel, aluminium, stainless steel)
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement (advantageous).
