Our son is a happy and affectionate boy who loves swinging, bouncing and anything related to Peppa Pig. Days can vary, but you might find yourself going to the park, the hydrotherapy pool, or just relaxing at home with sensory toys/activities.
As a Personal Care Assistant to our 8-year-old autistic, non-verbal son, your role would be to enable him to be more independent and support him in doing the things he enjoys most.
The position will be mostly home based to begin with, but once a good relationship has been built it also will involve escorting him to leisure or other appropriate social/recreational activities, providing supervision and guidance to ensure safety. A valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a personal vehicle would be essential.
Hours will be mostly evenings, with flexibility to accommodate weekends when required.
You would be assisting with daily tasks to ensure the comfort and well-being of our son (including preparing food and providing help with some aspects of personal care), as well as managing and responding to challenging behaviours with sensitivity.
Our son has epilepsy so you would also be expected to be able to respond to any medical emergency as required. Training can be provided if necessary.
Previous experience of supporting children/young people with disabilities/additional support needs is required. Whether this is professional or practical experience in the form of caring for a child or younger family member, we would love to hear from you.
