About the Company
Our client is a well-established main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality education, commercial, and public sector projects across London and the South East. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of an £18m education project in Harrow.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to gain exposure to a significant project while working alongside an experienced commercial team.
Role Overview
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager in managing the commercial aspects of the project from procurement through to final account. The role will involve working closely with the site and commercial teams to ensure the project is delivered within budget and in line with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with the commercial management of an £18m education construction project.
*
Support procurement of subcontractor packages including preparing enquiries, analysing returns, and assisting with subcontract awards.
*
Assist in preparing and managing subcontractor payment applications and valuations.
*
Monitor project costs and support cost reporting and forecasting.
*
Assist with the preparation and submission of interim valuations and variations.
*
Support the management of change control processes.
*
Maintain accurate records of project costs, variations, and contractual documentation.
*
Work closely with the site team to monitor progress and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
*
Assist in preparing final accounts with subcontractors and the client.
Key Requirements
*
1–3+ years’ experience working within a Quantity Surveying / Commercial role for a main contractor or subcontractor.
*
Experience working on construction projects, ideally within education, commercial, or public sector schemes.
*
Degree or working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Construction Management.
*
Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.
*
Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
*
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general commercial reporting tools.
*
Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
