Availability: Weekend availability required (at least 2 weekends per month)
Experience: Previous barista experience is essential

At The Lost Barn, we do things differently. We're a café, roastery, and farm shop all under one roof—bringing together small-batch roasted coffee with a community-focused, quality-driven hospitality experience. This role sits primarily within our café but offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with our roastery team and get involved in the full journey of coffee, from bean to cup.
The Role
We're looking for a skilled and passionate Speciality Barista to lead on quality and customer experience in our roastery café. You'll be central to delivering consistently excellent coffee, guiding and informing fellow colleagues as well as customers on our coffee offering, and ensuring every customer leaves with a memorable experience and a deeper appreciation of speciality coffee.
You will:
* Take ownership of coffee quality—dialling in with precision and maintaining high standards across all brew methods
* Deliver outstanding customer service through genuine, informed, and engaging interactions
* Lead by example—coaching and mentoring barista and fellow team members where necessary, sharing your knowledge, and encouraging pride in both product and craft
* Work closely with the Roastery Team and General Manager to maintain consistency and efficiency in both service and coffee quality
* Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked bar area, adhering to all hygiene and safety protocols
* Contribute to creative projects like seasonal drinks menus and training materials
Key Responsibilities
Coffee Excellence
* Refine and maintain recipes for our espresso and V60 offerings (we use a TONE brewer)
* Develop seasonal drinks and train the team on preparation and presentation
* Troubleshoot and maintain equipment, ensuring everything runs smoothly
* Collaborate with the Head of Coffee to ensure every cup meets our standards
Customer Engagement
* Create warm, personal, and educational customer experiences
* Participate in tastings, cuppings, and training events
* Support the onboarding and training of new team members if necessary
* Be a role model for outstanding service and product knowledge
Operational Support
* Oversee the bar's workflow for maximum efficiency during busy periods
* Communicate stock levels, placing and receiving orders if required
* Keep accurate records for recipes, allergens, and costings ensuring there are sufficient profit margins for each drink offering
* Uphold high hygiene standards and perform deep cleans as needed
