About Us
Sarah Barker Art Studios CIC is a newly founded, fully inclusive creative organisation based in Bodmin, Cornwall. Our mission is simple but powerful: Reimagining Art, Redefining Ability.
Founded by local paint-by-mouth artist Sarah Barker, we run creative and wellbeing programmes like Boogie & Brush, Drawn Together, Rhythm & Rhyme, and Memory Prism — bringing art, music, and movement to children, adults, and older people of all abilities.
We are committed to making our sessions safe, accessible, and inclusive, and we're looking for a Volunteer Safeguarding Lead to join our team as we grow.
The Role
As our Safeguarding Lead, you will play a vital role in keeping participants, volunteers, and staff safe. You'll be the first point of contact for safeguarding and child/vulnerable adult protection concerns, and will work with our Director, trustees, and volunteers to ensure policies are followed and updated.
You will:
* Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Sarah Barker Art Studios CIC.
* Be the first point of contact for safeguarding issues and concerns.
* Develop, update, and implement safeguarding and child/vulnerable adult protection policies.
* Ensure all volunteers and staff are aware of safeguarding procedures.
* Provide advice and support when concerns arise and escalate appropriately to statutory agencies.
* Maintain safeguarding logs and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
* Support recruitment processes (DBS checks, safeguarding induction, volunteer training).
* Report to the CIC Director and Board on safeguarding matters.
What We're Looking For
* Knowledge and experience of safeguarding children and/or vulnerable adults.
* Ideally, prior DSL / Safeguarding Officer experience (not essential — training can be provided).
* Confidence in managing sensitive issues calmly and professionally.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Reliability, integrity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Commitment to equality, inclusion, and the values of our CIC.
What You'll Gain
Be part of an inspiring new social enterprise that's shaping the future of inclusive arts in Cornwall.
* Gain valuable safeguarding and governance experience.
* Access to training and development opportunities.
* A chance to make a real impact in the lives of children, families, disabled people, and older adults.
Expenses covered (travel, agreed costs).
