Offer description

Do you want a role where your work makes a real difference to local communities? We’re looking for a Pest Treatment and Investigation Officer to join our Neighbourhood Protection Service – helping to keep our county clean, safe, and healthy. In this role, you’ll be the person people turn to when they need help tackling pest problems. You’ll investigate reports, provide practical solutions, deliver pest treatments, and take enforcement action to protect residents, homes, businesses, and public spaces. It’s a job where no two days are the same – you’ll work with a wide range of teams and community partners, from the Neighbourhood Wardens and Anti-Social Behaviour Officers to Environmental Health and our Empty Homes Team. Your work will have a visible impact: creating cleaner streets, safer neighbourhoods, and an environment everyone can enjoy. We encourage you to contact Mark Farren via email at mark.farren@durham.gov.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role. What We’re Looking For Qualifications – 5 GCSEs including English or relevant equivalent qualification (e.g., RSPH Level 2 in Pest Control). Training – Experience of identifying pest infestations and the underlying cause of them, and of using insecticides and rodenticides to treat infestations. Other – A full driving licence (you’ll need to pass an in-house driving assessment before appointment). For full details, check the attached Person Specification. Interviews Interviews will be held on 27th January 2026. We operate a guaranteed interview scheme for applicants that can show they meet all the essential criteria and have indicated they have a disability, are a looked after young person, care leaver, or a veteran. Our offer to you We offer a competitive rewards package that includes attractive salaries, a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days (rising to 32 after five years’ continuous local government service), membership of the excellent contributory career average Local Government Pension Scheme, and a range of flexible working arrangements including hybrid working (home and office) where applicable.
