About the Role
As an Equipment Technician you will have the following accountabilities:
Equipment Handling and Maintenance
* Work flexibly across maintenance goods in, maintenance goods out, and maintenance areas to support the team's needs.
* Carry out maintenance across the relevant equipment.
* Inspect incoming and outgoing equipment for quality, quantity, and condition, ensuring accurate booking in and out.
* Perform testing and thorough inspections on equipment, including specialist lifting gear in line with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
* Identify, pick, and pack items from requisitions, preparing them securely for transport.
* Load and unload delivery vehicles with plant and equipment, while maintaining organised despatch, goods receipt, and quarantine areas.
Safety, Compliance, and Team Support
* Assist Team Leaders in the daily running of the department, contributing to a well‑organised and effective operation.
* Participate in annual stock takes with a keen eye for detail to maintain inventory accuracy.
* Adhere to company safety rules, health & safety legislation, and environmental standards in all tasks.
* Proactively report and stop any unsafe practices, while keeping your workspace clean, tidy, and orderly at all times.
Customer Service and Administration
* Deliver top‑notch service to internal clients by accurately managing stock levels and handling administrative tasks efficiently.
* Process requisitions within 24 hours, verifying approvals and using the latest forms to keep everything on track.
* Update requisition trackers and input authorised order details into our system to facilitate smooth purchase orders.
* Communicate delivery and return notes promptly, including Excel versions for larger requests, to keep sites informed.
Who We're Looking For
We're after a practical, reliable and safety-focused Equipment Technician who enjoys being part of a close-knit stores/warehouse team and isn’t afraid to get stuck in.
Essential You'll Need
* Proven experience working in a busy stores, warehouse or workshop environment as part of a team.
* Strong communication skills comfortable dealing with colleagues, engineers, site teams and external suppliers.
* Solid understanding of workplace Health & Safety (you spot risks and call them out).
* Flexibility with working hours and occasional travel to sites around the UK.
* Ability to work independently when required, but always happy to support the wider team.
* Excellent time‑keeping and punctuality; we rely on each other.
Highly Desirable (these Will Give You a Big Advantage)
* Hands‑on experience inspecting, testing and servicing overhead line equipment (rail or utilities background ideal).
* Knowledge of lifting equipment and accessories Pullifts, Tirfors, chain blocks, slings, shackles etc.
* Experience carrying out scheduled maintenance and LOLER/PUWER examinations on general lifting gear.
* LEEA Foundation (Part 1) or LEEA Diploma (Part 2) qualification.
* Current counterbalance forklift and telehandler certificates.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) for stock records and reports.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
* Previous customer‑facing or client interaction experience.
