How you'll make a difference
As a Highways and Open Space Inspector, you will be working within the community to mitigate risk and help contribute towards a safe and enjoyable highway and open space environment for residents, workers and visitors within South Gloucestershire.
What you will be doing
* Daily, you will visit sites to effectively investigate, assess and respond to planned and emergency enquiries relating to highways and public spaces, such as overgrown vegetation, potholes and road traffic accidents.
* It will be your responsibility to offer solutions, acting on urgent requests and prepare reports within legal timeframes.
* Working closely with parish and town councils, local community groups, and other council departments, you will request repairs as required.
* Whilst the wider team cover the whole local authority area, you will cover a specific area to ensure a dedicated service delivery.
* Using dedicated IT systems, you will assess and decide the risk and severity of submitted reports.
* You will undertake land and asset ownership checks.
What we need from you
* It is essential that you have a good understanding of highways and ground maintenance legislation, policies and procedures.
* We require you to be able to make decisions on site relating to maintenance issues, conflicting priorities and know when to seek advice to resolve serious issues.
* You will be able to build relationships and influence others based on your knowledge and service needs and a proven ability to balance competing demands.
* It is essential that you have good IT skills, and an ability learn new systems such as MS Word.
* Ideally, you will carry a form of New Roads and Street Works Act accreditation, but this is not essential.
What you need to know
* Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to travel widely across South Gloucestershire so you must have a current driving licence.
Interviews will be held on 21st July 2025.
