We are looking for a Medical Lead to oversee our services in Gloucestershire and Cheshire West and Chester. This exciting opportunity joins a fast‑paced, growing organisation and enables you to play a key role in developing our specialist substance use clinical treatment offer.

Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality service delivery to people who use substances and their significant others.
* Contribute to the overall performance of designated services to meet contractual output targets and high clinical standards.
* Provide safe, effective and evidence‑based clinical interventions including prescribing, and holistic care within the designated service.
* Lead and coordinate medical leadership, liaising internally with senior and executive teams and externally with stakeholder partners.
* Assist in the development of systems, pathways and documents that promote holistic delivery for people with complex needs.
* Ensure appropriate clinical management and promote organisational interface with commissioners, suppliers, primary and secondary care services.
* Contribute to alert responses, audits, monitoring and implementation of recommendations/action plans.
* Use clinical data to improve quality and performance, and support subsequent improvements.
* Provide competency assessment, training and support for staff, students and volunteers.
* Maintain professional competence through CPD and meet regulator revalidation requirements.
* Work in line with legislation, best practice guidance, professional and CQC standards, and organisational documents.
* Provide clinical guidance to staff and partner agencies.
* Support a one‑team approach with management and direct reports.
Key Skills and Qualities
* Excellent communication, calm under pressure, and strong team‑working skills.
* IT skills including Microsoft Office, digital meeting platforms and case management systems such as Nebula.
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements: CQC, NICE and other relevant bodies.
* Commitment to partnership with a wide range of professionals to achieve good outcomes.
Person specification – essential
* Qualified Doctor registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with licence to practice and able to prescribe independently.
* Relevant postgraduate qualifications or recognized certificates, ideally MRCPsych and CCT/CESR or RCGP Drugs part 1 and 2 certificates.
* Passion for working with substance misuse services or with socially excluded or vulnerable groups.
* Sound clinical/prescribing knowledge on problematic substance use, harm reduction, and health promotion.
* Ability to work calmly under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining accurate records.
Person specification – desirable
* Consultant Psychiatrist with MRCPsych and CCT/CESR.
* Experience with audits, performance indicators, incident and complaints management, and education/learning/professional development.
* Experience providing clinical supervision, line management and appraisals.
* Previous experience with substance misuse clients.
