This is a new and exciting role to help with the coordination and management of paediatric patients who are being treated under the plastic surgery and burns teams at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Hospitals.

The plastic surgery and burns team is a highly specialised surgical division within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. We are the tertiary referral unit and the burns unit for a large population area covering Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Berkshire.

It is essential for this post holder to have a minimum of 2 years' experience in a paediatric setting and exposure to patients with plastic surgery and burns-related injuries.

The post holder must have excellent communication skills to liaise and work alongside patients and a varied multi-professional team.

Main duties of the job

1. Manage paediatric burns and plastics trauma clinics 7 days a week as part of the MDT.
2. Attend Burns MDT meetings on Tuesdays from 12-13.
3. Assess paediatric patients referred via the TRIPS system, prioritise hospital cases, and support referrers with burns care.
4. Ensure all safeguarding referrals are submitted by the plastics and burns medical team or referring hospital.
5. Coordinate paediatric burns and plastics trauma patients needing surgery through the Stoke Mandeville Trauma list.
6. Contribute to and coordinate weekend clinics for Paediatric Burns and Plastics Trauma.

Person specification

Education

* Nursing Degree certificate / RGN / NMC pin.
* Registered Paediatric Nurse to degree level or equivalent.
* Registered adult (burns) nurse with paediatric competencies.
* Further education in burns/plastic surgery evidence.

Core Skills

* Ability to use a computer.
* Evidence of clear written English.
* Recent experience within the Plastic Surgery and burns specialty field.
* Experience within theatre.
* Wide clinical experience as a nurse.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Experience with systems such as TRIPs and Careflow.

PPE requirements: Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust requires all colleagues to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with infection prevention and control procedures.
