Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Clinical Leader - 30 hours.
Ward 35 is a 27 bedded very busy acute Respiratory Ward.
Key Responsibilities
* Have good knowledge and experience with Acute Respiratory conditions and their management, including NIV, HI Flow and chest drains; some tracheostomy knowledge desirable.
* Demonstrate good leadership skills and maintain patient safety with high standards of care.
* Support junior staff while leading a shift to ensure safe care.
* Co‑ordinate using a forward‑thinking approach with admissions and discharges to enable timely bed flow.
* Participate in audits and report on areas below par, acknowledging areas of improvement, and assist the ward manager to maintain high standards and implement change.
* Encourage and support proactive engagement with other professions to provide best quality care and outcomes.
* Communicate effectively, sharing information throughout the day, with patients, relatives, at ward rounds, and multidisciplinary meetings.
* Act as a role model, support junior members, ward manager, and ensure high standards of care and patient safety.
* Take a proactive approach to understand the bigger picture, manage daily workload, develop leadership skills, and undertake additional training and study days.
Qualifications and Skills
* Registered Nurse.
* Excellent communication and time management skills.
* Proactive approach and ability to manage daily workload.
Work Environment
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as several community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
Each hospital offers a range of services: FGH and RLI have full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and consultant‑led services; WGH provides an Urgent Treatment Centre, planned care, outpatient, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, along with local outreach services and diagnostics across Morecambe Bay.
