Overview
We are looking for someone motivated and enthusiastic to support our busy dispensary department. Our objective is to increase our presence on the wards and help the hospital provide patients with the best possible care. Pharmacy dispensers help ensure timely discharge by dispensing prescriptions efficiently, allowing ward-based staff to concentrate on ward duties.
This post is suitable for someone with previous dispensing experience or a formal pharmacy qualification. The focus is to accurately perform routine and non-routine tasks in the Pharmacy dispensary under supervision, which do not require the full knowledge, skills and training of a Pharmacy Technician at BTEC/NVQ 3 level.
Individuals are expected to undertake the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services and the Buttercup Accuracy Checking for Dispensary Assistants course where applicable. The role includes receptionist duties for patients, hospital staff and other department visitors, and assisting in the provision of medicines for patient treatment.
Responsibilities
* Accurately and promptly dispense medicines for patients whose prescriptions have been validated by a Pharmacist.
* Check dispensed medicines for accuracy using the criteria set for Band 3 staff.
* Issue prescriptions when appropriate and supply Controlled Drugs with proper records.
* Participate in the Pharmacy Service to Wards and Departments; liaise with Pharmacy Team Leader and Senior Technician, Stores regarding to-follow medicines.
* Inform the appropriate Pharmacist of any supply problems; assist in ordering and supplying medicines to patients.
* Provide a reception service to patients, hospital staff and other customers; respond to telephone queries or redirect as needed.
* Maintain stock levels of medicines via daily internal orders and participate in daily stock checks of Controlled Drugs and the computerised stock system; assist with expiry date checks.
* Assist in maintaining a clean, efficient environment suitable for handling and dispensing medicines; assist in the training of staff and in the audit of Dispensary Services.
* Keep waiting area tidy, ensure notices and information leaflets are up-to-date; assist in documentation and record-keeping as required.
* Assist in the provision of the Pharmacy Reception service and ensure a smooth dispensing process.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Previous dispensing experience or a formal pharmacy qualification.
* Expected to undertake the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.
* Expected to undertake the Buttercup Accuracy Checking for Dispensary Assistants course.
* Experience in providing receptionist services to patients, hospital staff and other customers visiting or telephoning the department.
