We are seeking
to recruit a Clinical Research Fellow in Rheumatology to work within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) under the supervision of Professor Javid and Pinedo-Villanueva. As a Clinical Research Fellow, you will work as part of an interdisciplinary team with state-of-the-art training in epidemiology, biostatistics, and health economics. You will also have a unique opportunity to develop your clinical experience and expertise in the management of adults with rare bone disorders from clinics at Oxford and other expert centres across the NHS.
The outline of the DPhil will include:
1. Use the existing online Rudystudy.org platform to determine the predictors for changes in patient-reported symptoms, physical function, mental, and social wellbeing after initiating burosumab.
2. Access local clinical data to determine the predictors for clinical events, laboratory, and imaging findings after initiating burosumab.
3. Characterise the quality of life and productivity of caregivers for adults with XLH, prior to and following initiation of treatment with burosumab.
You will be managing your own academic research and administrative activities related to the DPhil. This involves small-scale project management to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will contribute ideas for new research projects, engage in patient and public involvement, present papers at conferences, and act as a source of information and advice to other team members.
You will hold a medicine degree, be included in the GMC Full Register with a license to practice, and be able to commence a full-time DPhil in September/October 2025. Experience in epidemiological research and managing adults with XLH would be desirable.
