Job Summary


Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Brent Children's and Young People's Occupational Therapy Team. We are looking for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to work part time.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with children and developing new skills.

Your role will be to provide assessment, advice, and treatment to children with a range of needs including coordination, developmental, physical functional, sensory and sensory motor needs either in 1:1 input, groups or integrated MDT groups. The role will include work within a local clinic, schools and supporting families across Brent.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with established multi-professional teams within Brent Community Services and with outside services to deliver occupational therapy advice and treatment meeting the needs of children and young people across Brent including delivering EHCP treatment in line with The Children's Act 2014.

You will have had experience of working with children in the community and/or educational settings or similar.

You should be able to evidence excellent team working and communication skills and have a passion for management and leadership.

You will receive support from a line manager and receive in house training as part of the role. There is a strong ethos of clinical support and supervision within the team.

This role will develop your knowledge and skills working with children with communication difficulties and is valuable experience for anyone wishing to develop their career in this area.

Essential

Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent Diploma/Qualification in OT
* Current AHP with UK HCPC registration

Desirable

* Expertise in the specialist field of paediatrics incorporating a wide range of theory and evidence-based practise.
* Member of professional body; RCOT
* Attendance at workshops / seminars in paediatric OT
* An up-to-date professional portfolio demonstrating reflective learning especially within the neurological field

Essential

Experience

* Experience of working with people with a wide range of permanent disabilities and short-term illness
* Experience in working with clients with neurological impairment ? Experience working with tertiary or voluntary community-based services
* Experience working with clients from diverse cultures
* Understanding of cultural differences and their impact on OT provision
* Experience in working with children

Desirable

* Experience working as an occupational therapy assistant.
* Experience of working in health/social care in the community
* Experience with the NHS patient information database (e.g.EMIS, SystmOne, RiO).
* Qualification in working with children
* Experience of planning and running groups
* Work in special and mainstream schools
* Experience of psychosocial aspects of working with families of children with disabilities

Skills & Knowledge

* Basic knowledge of the developmental stages of children and young people
* An ability to use clinical and ethical reasoning skills to analyse and interpret assessment findings, plan and evaluate intervention programme
* Basic knowledge of common medical conditions and a basic understanding of their impact on functional ability
* Basic knowledge of legislation relating to child health and education.
* Ability to reflect on clinical practise and experience
* An understanding of the boundaries of the Occupational Therapist role
* Clear & concise written skills with competency in IT skills for video calls, reports, advice/activity suggestions and internet use to access Occupational Therapy related information
* Candidates should have emotional integrity and demonstrate ability to cope with difficult/highly emotive situations.
* Ability to problem solve, organise, prioritise and demonstrate sound judgement
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to adapt.
* Good understanding of family-centred practice.

Desirable

* Experience of teaching/ presentation skills appropriate for teaching professionals and peers in an in-service training setting
* Basic patient/carer assessment skills.
* Knowledge of multi-agency services available and processes for referral
