Consultant Cardiologist – Permanent, Full‑time (10 Programmed Activities) – Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool, UK

Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum. Closing date: 29/10/2025 23:59.
We are seeking a Consultant Cardiologist to join a team of 11 consultants at Aintree Hospital, providing comprehensive cardiac care across the Trust and supporting the expansion of Cardiology services within the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide cardiac service delivery across inpatient, outpatient and interventional care pathways.
* Lead and develop a subspecialty interest in areas such as Heart Failure, Pacing & Arrhythmia, Imaging or Interventional Cardiology.
* Collaborate closely with fellow Consultants and clinical teams to enhance the quality and scope of cardiovascular care.
* Participate in ward/ACCU duties and outpatient clinics as per the indicative job plan (10 Programmed Activities).
* Engage in teaching, supervision, audit, quality improvement (QI) and governance activities.
Indicative Job Plan (10 PAs)
Ward/ACCU Weeks (approx. 6 per year)
* AM: ACCU/ward rounds including PTWR (DCC)
* PM: Ward reviews and board rounds (DCC)
* Weekend: Participation in ACCU/post‑take ward rounds (on‑call supplement applies)
Off‑ward Weeks (indicative)
* 2 PAs Outpatient clinics (General/Heart Failure/Arrhythmia/Imaging)
* 2–3 PAs Sub‑specialty sessions (Cath lab, pacing list, imaging or device clinic)
* 0.5–1 PA A&G/RAS triage and MDT meetings
* 1.5 SPAs Teaching, supervision, CPD, audit, QI, and governance
* Remainder: Admin and on‑call session‑in‑lieu
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent
* Full registration with GMC
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months), CESR, or European Community Rights
* Signed off for subspecialty interest
Desirable
* Higher research degree or in the process of gaining one
Experience
* Wide experience in elective and emergency Cardiology to CCT standard
* Evidence of practice at consultant or sub‑consultant level for a substantial period
* Expertise in a subspecialty area
Desirable Experience
* Previous fellowships or extended training
* Teaching experience
* Relevant NHS audit experience
Research & Publications
* Research and publications relevant to postgraduate training
* Presentations at national and international meetings
