Overview
As a Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer in the Aerospace, Defence, Security and Technology (ADS&T) team, you will play a vital role in shaping projects. Working with talented colleagues across all disciplines, you will provide safety case leadership, support and delivery. You will work closely with clients to develop and implement solutions to solve their most complex problems. The role is based in Bristol, Manchester, Silchester or Glasgow, with flexibility to work from client sites as required.
Your Role
We want you to help us deliver the most significant defence‑related programmes across the UK. This includes the design and construction of new infrastructure, life extensions and upgrades, maintaining ongoing operations, and decommissioning. You will be involved in all aspects of safety case support, including
* Shaping the nuclear safety case strategy
* Working closely with project partners to ensure a safety‑informed design
* Engaging with stakeholders to facilitate "Right First Time" delivery (incl. designers, client, site, and regulatory bodies such as DNSR, ONR)
* Undertaking safety assessments and safety analysis (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, HAZAN)
* Producing safety reports and other technical documents (e.g. PSR, PCSR, ALARP reports)
* Supporting engineering substantiation activities
* Managing/leading safety case activities and teams
About You
* Proven track record in safety, ideally within the defence and nuclear domain, or other highly regulated industries
* Ready to take the next step to grow and thrive within a supportive environment
* Hungry to expand knowledge and experience, and thrives in a stretching but supportive environment
* Enjoys innovating and problem‑solving
* Embraces digital world and explores its use in nuclear safety
* Engages with others and helps people "get it" and achieve more
* Approachable and builds relationships and networks
* Honours Degree (or equivalent) in physics, mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline (2:1 minimum)
* Chartered or working towards chartership status
* Technical practitioner in nuclear/defence domains with good engineering judgement and experience applying fundamental engineering principles
