A Vacancy at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The Homerton HealthcareNHSFoundation Trustisappointinga Senior Clinical Fellow in Colorectal and General Surgery. The post holder will be responsible for ward rounds, will undertake General Surgery and Colorectal outpatient clinics, and assist on Colorectal and General Surgery theatre lists. There is opportunity for the post holder to get involved in teaching and training, audit and quality improvement work. The post holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in Open, Laparoscopic and Robotic colorectal surgery as well as endoscopy.
The post is offered on a full-time basis, and includes a 1 in 12 on call commitment, including night shifts, with commensurate banding.
This is a 6 month post to cover the gap for a deanery trainee.
Main duties ofthe post
Clinical responsibilities
The post-holderswillbe expected to ensure the appropriate and safe managementof general and colorectal surgery patients.
A shared office space,includingcomputerand appropriate secretarial supportwillbeprovided.
Teaching and academic activity
The postholderwillparticipate in the postgraduate and undergraduate teachingandtrainingprogrammewithinthe hospital.Researchactivity willbe encouraged.
Management and clinical admin
The postholderwillbe expected to contribute to thedevelopmentofthe servicewithinthedirectorate.The appointeewillbe expected totakepartin the managementand routineadministrative duties associatedwiththe careoftheirpatients.
Continuing professional development
Continuingprofessionaldevelopmentisan integral partofa clinical fellowpost.Theappointeewillbe encouraged to ensurethathis/her full entitlementto studyleaveis taken.
Timetable
The appointee's weekly timetable will broadly follow that of the consultant with whom they are attached when not on call. Shortlisted applicants will be provided with a sample copy of a timetable if they wish to see it. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in line with service needs (e.g., arriving earlier and staying lateron days where they are supporting in theatres).

Purpose ofthe Post
ThepostwillbebasedintheDepartmentofgeneral Surgery within the subspecialty of Colorectal Surgery. The post involves supporting the supervising consultants in the full spectrum of clinical activity including main theatres, day surgery theatres, out-patients and ward work. The successful candidate may be expected to support surgeons across the service. This will provide an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced surgeons, particularly as they look to continue to provide high quality clinical care in a post-COVID healthcare environment.
It is envisioned that the successful candidate will play an active role in improving the emergency surgical pathway for patients alongside consultants, managers, and the wider hospital team. A particular focus will be the effective running of the CEPOD list. Experience in quality improvement would be desirable but training can be provided within the Trust.
The appointee will participate in the registrar on-call rota, which will include night shifts. The pattern for these on-call shifts is currently a 1 in 12 rotation with no more than 4 consecutive days/nights. Appropriate zero days are scheduled to ensure rota compliance. Notice of 6 weeks will be given for any changes to the rota pattern.
