Overview

Healthcare Science Support Worker to join the team in Central Specimen Reception across the South Tees Pathology department. The post holder will undertake the Healthcare Science Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship standard. You will be released for study to achieve this qualification (location to be confirmed).

The job involves a range of tasks that support the Pathology laboratory in receipting and processing of patient samples so that results can be generated and released to clinicians to aid diagnosis.


Responsibilities

* You will be responsible for the reception/data entry and processing of clinical specimens, these may include a range of swabs, body fluids, and blood samples.
* The department operates a 24/7 shift system. While this role will mostly involve working between the hours of 8am and 8pm, there may be occasional requirement for out of hours working, depending on the needs of the service.


Requirements / Qualifications

* Good communication with staff in the department and service users; ability to plan and use their own time economically and effectively; high motivation for the role.
* Although knowledge of laboratory areas is desirable, it is not essential.

Most apprenticeship programmes in the UK are government-funded. To qualify for this funding, you must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years before starting the apprenticeship. This means living in the UK for most of the past three years without significant absences.
