Gwernyfed High School is seeking an exceptional Business and Operations Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team at a pivotal and exciting time in our school’s development. This is a highly influential role, offering the opportunity to shape the operational, financial and organisational foundations that enable outstanding teaching, learning and pupil experience.
Situated in a beautiful rural setting, Gwernyfed High School is an 11–18 co-educational school serving over 500 pupils, with strong community links and a clear commitment to improvement, inclusion and wellbeing.
The Role
As a full member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Business and Operations Manager will contribute to the strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of the school, with responsibility for all core business functions.
You will provide professional leadership across:
Finance and resource management, including oversight of a budget of up to £5m
Human resources and staffing operations, supporting both teaching and support staff
Premises, estates and health & safety, ensuring a safe, welcoming and sustainable environment
Risk management, data protection and compliance, including GDPR
Information and management systems, supporting accurate data and effective decision-making
Working closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, Governors, Local Authority and external partners, you will ensure that the school operates efficiently, compliantly and sustainably, allowing educational leaders to focus on improving outcomes for learners.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a confident, forward-thinking professional who:
Has significant business or operations management experience, ideally within an educational or comparable public-sector environment
Brings strong financial expertise, including budgeting, modelling, reporting and ensuring value for money
Is an effective leader of people, able to develop, support and motivate diverse teams
Can operate strategically while maintaining strong oversight of operational detail
Communicates clearly and professionally with senior leaders, governors and external stakeholders

Applicants should be educated to degree level or equivalent, or be willing to work towards this. Relevant financial or business qualifications (e.g. AAT, CIPFA, DSBM) are highly desirable. Where qualifications are not yet held, the post may be offered under a supported apprenticeship route with pro‑rata pay progression.
