Teaching Assistant (Independent SEN School)

Salary: up to £29,328.00 per annum (based on 41 weeks)

Job Overview

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) will work closely with the teaching staff to support the educational development of children with complex learning disabilities. The HLTA will provide high-level support in planning and delivering lessons, working with small groups or individual pupils to support their learning, and contributing to the overall development of students both academically and socially. The HLTA will be expected to have a deeper understanding of special educational needs and work more autonomously to support the class teacher and school leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Support and Delivery:

* Support the delivery of lessons under the guidance of the class teacher, particularly in special education approaches for children with complex learning disabilities.
* Prepare resources and adapt learning materials to meet the specific needs of students.
* Work with small groups or individual pupils to provide additional support for learning, including during class activities and structured interventions.
* Lead or assist in the planning and preparation of interventions to meet individual learning objectives, ensuring activities are inclusive and engaging.

Assessment and Monitoring:

* Assist in assessing the progress of students and provide feedback to the class teacher.
* Track and monitor individual pupil progress, making adjustments to interventions as required to support achievement.
* Contribute to the recording of pupil development, identifying challenges, and suggesting solutions for improvement.

Pupil Support and Wellbeing:

* Provide support for students with emotional, social, and behavioural needs, helping them integrate into classroom activities.
* Support the delivery of personal care and social skills development as needed.
* Implement specific behavioural support plans and work closely with the class teacher to adapt approaches when necessary.
* Maintain a supportive environment in which students feel safe and encouraged to participate in learning.

Collaboration with Staff:

* Work closely with the teaching team to deliver consistent, high-quality learning experiences.
* Attend and contribute to team meetings, providing insights into the needs and progress of individual students.
* Liaise with other professionals (SENCo, therapists, etc.) to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Professional Development:

* Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) to further enhance knowledge and skills in special education.
* Take responsibility for personal development and learning, staying up to date with the latest best practices in supporting children with complex learning disabilities.
