Do you want to drive forward the circular economy and influence future waste legislation?
We’re looking for a Senior Advisor to join our Producer Responsibility team to help deliver the Government’s Resources and Waste Strategy.
You’ll work with Environment Agency colleagues, Defra, UK devolved administrations, and industry to deliver significant legislative changes. You can make a difference.
You’ll need to be adaptable, self-motivated, and able to translate policy into action.
You’ll be involved in various aspects of our work, especially:
1. Working closely with stakeholders across government, industry, and the Environment Agency to influence and implement legislation for workstreams including Packaging and Deposit Return Scheme, with support to other workstreams as needed.
2. Providing technical advice within the Environment Agency and to industry.
3. Driving reforms in waste management to change how waste is managed in England, working with like-minded individuals aiming for the same goal. This could involve shaping digital systems for waste management or policy development.
We’re a dispersed team and collaborate with technical and project teams across the country.
We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, though some travel and overnight stays may be required.
The team
You’ll join our Producer Responsibility Team, which leads on reforming Waste Regulations to achieve government ambitions of resource conservation through waste minimization.

Experience and skills required
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging consideration of diversity issues in work.

* Risk-based decision-making skills to achieve optimal outcomes.
* Knowledge of environmental legislation, especially waste management laws.

* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

The role is based at our EA Office, with flexible/hybrid working arrangements. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
