As a Payroll Team Leader, you will report to a Payroll Manager based in our shared service centre in Rushmere. You will manage a team of payroll administrators and support the wider payroll team to ensure all employees within the business are paid correctly across multiple sites on our weekly and monthly payrolls.

You will assist the Payroll Manager with complex payroll processes and support the team with their tasks. You will line manage, support, and develop a team of payroll administrators with varying levels of experience.

Key Responsibilities

* Ensure the completion of weekly/monthly payrolls in their entirety.
* Assist with payroll year-end processes - P60/P11D.
* Ensure HMRC payments are processed on time - FPS, EPS, and RTI.
* Support payroll systems projects and testing.
* Work closely with finance to ensure costing and same-day payments are balanced.
* Process and reconcile pensions from start to finish.
* Support the wider business by resolving email and ticket system queries.
* Ensure all payroll documents are completed each week - Payroll checklists.
* Distribute work evenly within the department.
* Assist with performance and development of team members.
* Monitor team performance to maintain standards throughout the department.
* Conduct regular team meetings for effective communication.
* Assist in development plans for the team and achieve set targets.
* Delegate responsibilities with supervision and accountability.
* Be available to support team members with issues or queries, demonstrating approachability.
* Provide clear communication and direction within the team.
* Problem-solve as issues arise.
* Assist with recruitment, including interview processes.

Compliance

* Stay updated with payroll legislation and legal requirements.
* Ensure compliance with SOX audit requirements and maintain best practice controls.
* Implement efficient, effective, and transparent processes.
* Review and improve current processes to support the business.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements.

Data Integrity

* Maintain accurate payroll master data, communicating effectively with HR, Finance, and Rewards & Benefits departments to ensure data validation.
* Validate PAYE and National Insurance calculations.

Reporting

* Compile and review reports weekly.
* Administer pension fund reports, member payments, new joiners, and leavers, ensuring deadlines are met.
* Apply knowledge and previous experience of a payroll environment.
* Work effectively under pressure while handling complex queries.
* Maintain payroll legislation knowledge.
* Follow documented instructions with discipline.
* Use Microsoft Office packages proficiently.
* Identify and escalate issues promptly.
* Communicate expectations clearly within the department.
* Maintain good interpersonal skills within the team.
* Ensure high data accuracy in payroll records.
