Main duties of the job
We need you to lead our team, supervising our staff and supporting them to be the best they can be, providing clarity and direction on tasks, support to help them develop as well as ensuring they understand how crucial their role is to our patients and staff.
Obviously it goes without saying that your effective communication skills will help you liaise with colleagues and other departments in order to ensure the smooth running of the department and you will be the role model and lead by example. Your commitment and passion for delivering a great catering service will shine through.
We want to support you in your role, so you will be given full interactive training as well as specialised training courses in our active kitchens, where you will gain further experience and transferable skills that will be great for your development. We also have management support in place so you are never on your own.

Job responsibilities
* Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure an accurate exchange of information about catering tasks and service needs.
* Communicate with a range of service users, either internal or external, in person and over the telephone, to understand individual needs and provide information relating to the catering.
* Coordinate and supervise the production of simple snacks for service within the catering retail.
* Coordinate the food service for both patient meals and retail services.
* Coordinate and supervise the cleaning, either manually or with the use of mechanical equipment provided, e.g., cleaning of areas, washing of crockery, cutlery, and utensils.
* Assist with the coordination and management of staff in the capacity of a first line.
* Assist with the management of performance issues, including attendance, conduct, and compliance with the appropriate Trust policies in relation to these issues.
* Assist with the monitoring and management of sickness and absence, liaising with managers, in particular conducting return-to-work interviews following staff absence.
* Prepare staff rotas, allocating duties daily to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
* Participate, where required, within the interview and selection process for Band 2 staff.
* Actively encourage staff development following the Trust's policies and procedures.
* Operate cash registers in retail areas, demonstrating diligence at all times.
* Supervise Catering Assistants, providing training as needed.
* Ensure accuracy when allocating floats and cash counting at the start and end of shifts.
* Ensure security of cash within the departmental safe and whilst transporting around the Trust.
* Report any defective equipment, personal injuries, or health and safety issues.
* Escalate to a manager if necessary.
* Remove equipment from service if required.
* Proactively support the continued development of the catering service.
* Maintain and develop own competence.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Education
* Level 2 Certificate in Food Hygiene
* Level 3/Intermediate Certificate in Food Hygiene
* Basic Health and Safety qualification
Knowledge and Experience
* Knowledge of Information Governance and Data Protection.
* Experience in the Catering industry.
* Experience in dealing with the public.
* Previous supervisory experience.
* Knowledge of therapeutic diets.
* Experience within a Healthcare setting.
