An exciting opportunity has arisen for forward thinking, highly motivated nurses to apply for a post of Night Sister/Charge Nurse within the Geriatric Medicine Directorate, specialising in the care of elderly patients.
Post holders will undertake and support in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specific programmes of patient care, taking a lead role in reducing the length of stay of Geriatric patients. Exercise judgement in assessing wide ranging patient problems and promote options for optimum patient care,
Other duties will be to develop and implement evidence based programmes of care which are patient focused health promoting and system managed.
Main duties of the job
1. To develop and provide specialised programmes of nursing care to a diverse range of patients and support to carers on the ward.
2. To lead a team of qualified, support and student team members.
3. To take charge of the ward / dept regularly
4. Support the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse in ensuring the highest standard and quality of nursing care is delivered
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.
Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

5. Registered General Nurse
6. First level degree in related subject
7. Evidence of continued professional development
8. Recognised mentor qualification
9. To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.

10. Master's level degree
11. Post Graduate qualification in related subject at level 6 (or working towards)

12. Extensive post registration experience at Band 5
13. Relevant experience of caring for elderly care patients
