Role Purpose
We're looking for a highly skilled and experienced Bid Manager to oversee their end-to-end bidding process, with a specific focus on IT bids. In this critical role, you'll collaborate closely with internal teams and Business Units to produce the highest quality bid submissions, ensuring strict adherence to formal governance processes. You will provide expert knowledge on bidding processes to all involved parties and continuously qualify opportunities as they progress.
Security clearance or a willingness to apply will be required for this role. A full UK driving licence is also essential.
Key Responsibilities
As an integral member of the bid team, you will:
* Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships and gather input from a wide variety of stakeholders, including sales, marketing, product teams, finance, legal, commercial, delivery, vendors, and third-party subcontractors.
* Strategy and Delivery: Work with core teams to drive and deliver compelling win themes and build a robust bid strategy. Help determine the appropriate approach, including budget, requirements analysis, and solution design. Where appropriate, you will have direct contact with the customer.
* Customer Engagement Support: Be actively involved with and provide support to sales throughout the customer engagement process, including the crucial qualification and requalification of bids.
* Commercial Acumen: Prepare and review the commercial aspects of bids, ensuring all services are comprehensively included in the final customer price. You will be responsible for the timely delivery of compliant and commercially sound bids.
* Process Adherence & Risk Management: Ensure strict adherence to proposal and internal processes, with diligent risk tracking and management throughout the entire bid process.
* Issue Resolution: Understand and resolve complex technical, strategic, and business issues, effectively managing multi-work stream opportunities.
* Proactive Escalation: Proactively escalate issues to the management team when required and in good time, ideally with a suggested course of action.
* Bid Campaign Management: Support Sales with bid campaign management from opportunity identification through to project delivery/transition, adhering to internal governance procedures, reviews, and legal constraints.
* Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify areas of weakness in the bid cycle and/or bid documentation production and responses. Provide feedback and ideas to management for improvement.
* Content Harvesting: Help with the continual improvement of bid content by regularly harvesting text from completed bids and recirculating it into the central repository for the benefit of others.
* Knowledge Sharing: Share best practices, lessons learned, and improvement ideas with the team. Provide input to style guides and templates that benefit the team.
* Central Repository Management: Ensure all completed bids are placed in the central repository used by the team for easy access.
* Timeline Communication: Ensure any timeline changes on allocated bids are clearly communicated to your Manager to facilitate team workload reviews.
Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will have:
* Exceptional Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to rewrite content from contributors where necessary to ensure clarity and impact.
* Winning Bid Delivery: Proven capability to deliver winning product and/or complex services bid submissions, with a strong understanding of IT solutions. You should be adept at proactively identifying areas of improvement, including gap analysis and the identification of weak responses.
* Proposal Contribution: Strong ability to contribute to written proposals and presentation material, both in terms of content accuracy and professional presentation (e.g., preparing compelling management summaries).
