SUMMARY OF ROLE: As a Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from tender through to final account. You will ensure accurate valuation of work, cost control, and commercial reporting, while supporting project teams to achieve budget, quality, and programme targets. This is a key role in delivering profitable projects and maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare, submit, and agree monthly valuations and applications for payment. Measure and re-measure works (BOQs) to support valuations and final accounts. Prepare, negotiate, and agree variations and compensation events. Prepare monthly cost reports (CVRs) and forecast project margins. Track project costs against budgets and highlight any risks or opportunities. Support value engineering and cost optimisation exercises. Administer contracts in accordance with NEC, JCT, and client-specific forms. Issue and track all contract notices (e.g. early warnings, delay notices). Assist the Commercial Manager in resolving contractual or commercial disputes. Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure compliance with company procedures. Prepare and issue subcontract and supplier enquiries, analyse tenders, and make recommendations. Draft and issue subcontract orders and purchase orders. Assess and authorise subcontractor applications and payments. Monitor supplier and subcontractor performance to ensure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. Liaise with the fabrication, procurement, and design teams to ensure material orders align with project budgets and programme. Review design drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with project budgets and scope. Identify potential design or detailing issues affecting cost or constructability. Collaborate with the Design and Project Management teams to manage design changes and their commercial impact. Maintain contract cashflow and follow up on outstanding payments and retentions. Provide commercial advice and support to project managers and site teams. Attend project and client meetings as required, ensuring effective communication of commercial matters. Contribute to project reviews, financial forecasting, and business reporting. Undertake any other duties deemed required by Senior Management. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Essential Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification, ideally in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management. Minimum 3 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor for a main or specialist contractor. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). High standard of numeracy, analytical ability, and written communication skills. Desirable Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB). Experience in the roofing, cladding, and glazing sectors. Familiarity with CAD, estimating, or construction ERP software (e.g., Conquest, COINS).
