We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to lead the planning, delivery, and optimisation of a busy transport operation. You’ll oversee a fleet of HGV vehicles, a team of drivers, and planning staff, ensuring exceptional service levels, compliance, and operational efficiency. With a significant transport budget to manage, this role offers the chance to drive improvements and deliver measurable results in a fast-paced environment.
Description of the role:
* Manage the day-to-day operation of the transport fleet, ensuring agreed customer service levels are consistently achieved.
* Monitor and improve fleet efficiency, focusing on planning, vehicle utilisation, and cost-effectiveness.
* Maximise profitability of distribution activities through opportunities such as backloading and third-party work.
* Maintain compliance with all legal, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Plan and monitor vehicle maintenance to minimise downtime.
* Lead, train, and develop a team of drivers, planners, and admin staff.
* Produce and review transport KPIs and financial performance reports.
* Drive a culture of customer service, safety, and continuous improvement.
About you:
* CPC holder in Road Transport Operations (National or International).
* Proven experience managing LGV fleets and distribution.
* Strong leadership and team management skills.
* High IT literacy and confident with transport systems and reporting.
* Strong communication and decision-making skills.
* Self-motivated, disciplined, and commercially aware.
* Experience in the construction industry desirable.
* LGV Licence.
* Familiarity with regional markets and key external hauliers.
