An opportunity has arisen for an 8a psychologist (0.8 FTE) within the Wales Offender Personality Disorder Pathway (OPDP).

The role is to provide psychological support to Probation Officers within dedicated Local Delivery Units in their management of high-risk offenders identified as presenting with behaviour consistent with a personality disorder diagnosis. Work alongside probation colleagues to enhance the assessment and supervision of those identified offenders through the provision of case consultations and formulations. The role will involve training and workforce development of Offender Managers and Offender Management Teams, through consultation, to enable an understanding of the psychological aspects of a client’s risk and the development of psychologically informed formulations and risk management plans.

The post holder will also provide psychological intervention within the OPDP IIRMS (Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service). To work with complex OPDP service users undertaking formulation, treatment intervention planning & evidence based interventions with high and very high risk males and females managed by Wales Probation Service within the community.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Good Honours Degree in Psychology
2. Eligibility for British Psychological Society Chartered Status
3. Post Graduate Doctorate/Qualification in specialist area (Clinical/Counselling/Forensic) Psychology
4. Clinical Supervision Training for Doctoral Trainee Practitioner Psychologist
5. Doctoral level/Advanced knowledge of practitioner psychology theory and practice
6. Doctoral/Advanced level of research design and methodology including multivariate data analysis as practiced with practitioner psychology
7. Knowledge of relevant legislation
8. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC

Desirable criteria

9. Post-Doctoral qualification in specific areas of practitioner psychology (Clinical/Forensic/Counselling
10. Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis and people with additional disabilities
11. Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies

19. Substantial assessed experience of working as a qualified practitioner psychologist, including significant post-qualification experience within the designated speciality
20. Demonstration of further specialist training/experience through having received extensive and demonstrable clinical supervision agreed by a Head of Psychology
21. Experience of specialised psychological assessment and treatment of a range of clients across a wide range of care settings
22. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care, with experience of co-ordinating care within the context of multi-disciplinary care-planning.

Desirable criteria

23. Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
24. Experience of the application of practitioner psychology in diverse cultural contexts.
25. Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.

26. Ability to travel within geographical area and work hours flexibly
27. Satisfactory Standard/Enhanced DBS clearance
28. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
29. Capable of maintaining a high degree of professionalism and safe clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
30. The ability to identify and provide appropriate means of support to line-managed staff who deal with highly distressing situations, severely challenging behaviours and other stressors.
31. The ability to use a variety of complex multi-media materials for a range of purposes such as teaching and training.
