Specialist Speech & Language Therapist Leeds - Daniel Yorath House, LS25 1HA
Salary: £35,392 to £42,618 DOE, pro rata

MAIN PURPOSE: To work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy (SaLT) within the Brainkind Neurobehavioural model to People We Support with acquired brain injury (ABI), and to lead SaLT provision within the service. To liaise with professionals, families, and People We Support.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Apply the neurobehavioural approach to brain injury, demonstrating current research knowledge and best practices.
2. Manage and prioritize a caseload of People We Support with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
3. Use evidence-based, person-centred practice and clinical reasoning for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of interventions.
4. Conduct comprehensive assessments considering environment, context, and future plans to formulate appropriate rehabilitation and care plans, communication and dysphagia therapy programs, and referrals.
5. Address communication barriers to actively engage People We Support in assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning, respecting legal frameworks regarding consent and capacity.
6. Seek and advocate for consent, respecting confidentiality with family, carers, and stakeholders.
7. Provide information on communication abilities and support needs.
8. Perform swallowing assessments, offering recommendations, care plans, referrals, and staff training for dysphagia management.
9. Follow risk management and safeguarding responsibilities, seeking improvements and actions as needed.
10. Complete risk assessments and promote health and safety.
11. Exercise duty of care in all aspects of the role.
12. Maintain equipment and inventory, informing management of needs.
13. Maintain HCPC registration, complying with requirements.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership: Work flexibly and creatively as an autonomous clinical professional, promote quality and continuous improvement, develop collaborative relationships, lead service planning and development, and act as a role model.
Research & Development: Undertake relevant research or audits, participate in service sustainability, and contribute to professional development and organizational improvement.
Facilitation of Learning: Support a learning culture, contribute to training and education, promote awareness of speech and language therapy, and demonstrate leadership through professional behaviours.
Personal Development & Supervision: Maintain own competence, participate in training and supervision, seek advice when needed, and engage in continuous professional development.
ABOUT YOU: We seek someone with:
* A degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
* HCPC registration.
* Dysphagia competencies.
* Experience in hospital or residential settings.
* Specialist knowledge of SaLT models and interventions in ABI.
* Experience with outcome measures.
* At least 4 years of complex case management experience.
* Experience working with adults with neurological conditions or equivalent clinical experience.
