Overview

Join to apply for the Volunteer - Cadet Scheme Leader (Newbury) role at Thames Valley Police.

Thames Valley Police’s Cadets scheme gives young people an opportunity to develop their qualities and skills through a structured programme and to enhance the relationship between the public and police. You will take part in neighbourhood policing initiatives, plus community activities and events. The scheme encourages the spirit of adventure, offering the opportunity for you to be heard, support your community and develop skills to become a fantastic citizen in a fun and friendly environment.

We are looking for a Volunteer Cadet Scheme Leader based at Newbury to work as part of a pool of volunteer leaders. You will assist running and supporting police cadet activities in West Berkshire and at the weekly sessions in school term times. The aim is to teach young persons interested in the police service about the role and aid their learning and to also take part in team building activities and games.

We meet on Tuesdays at 7pm, generally in Newbury but sometimes at Sulhamstead. We also require leaders to assist at other times on trips and camps. You will not be required to attend all sessions and appreciate you are volunteering on top of your full time role but we are looking for you to commit to attending at least one session per month. For safeguarding reasons we require a number of cadet leaders to be present relevant to the particular session.

You must be 18 years or older to be eligible for this role. You are able to claim expenses and if internal TOIL for the time given in your capacity as a cadet leader.

If you have any queries please contact the Recruitment Department at RecruitmentPoliceStaff@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk quoting reference 22041. We will endeavour to respond to your query as quickly as possible. Please use Google Chrome when completing your application, wherever possible, as this will enhance performance. The closing date for enquiries and receipt of completed applications is 31st December 2025. Please note this vacancy may be removed earlier once sufficient candidates have been sourced.

As a volunteer within the police service, you will be subjected to a level of police vetting. The level will be dependent upon the role and its access requirements. With the higher levels of vetting, applicants could be asked to provide details of family members, partner, partner’s parents and co-residents, as well as additional information regarding their own personal circumstances. This process is required to ensure that Thames Valley Police comply with the legislation of the Vetting Code of Practice. While we endeavour to complete all vetting within 30 working days of receipt of vetting forms, this is not always the case due to operational demand and back-logs, and could take considerably longer. If you have any concerns or queries regarding your application please do not hesitate to get in touch.
