Job Title: Tooling & Sustaining Engineer Location: Melksham, UK Business Unit: Avon Protection Scope of the Function This role would be suitable for entry-level Engineers with desire to develop their career in tooling design, through to experienced Tooling and Sustaining engineers. For the successful candidate, the offer will be made dependent on experience. This role will Support the lead tooling engineer with mould tool design and sustaining functions within HPW. Key Responsibilities Enable efficient design and development of new mould and associated tooling from product design concept, through development and transfer into production manufacture in accordance with Avon procedures. Utilisation of design optimisation tools and analytical methods to promote efficient, effective, and robust tool design solutions. Provide support for legacy tooling including. Tooling maintenance requirements External tooling repairs New or replacement tooling purchasing Process and/or tool design improvements. ISIR and capability study submissions and approvals Management of tooling asset registers (internal and customer owned) Facilitation of tooling/asset audits Design of mould tooling and equipment to meet project objectives whilst ensuring all new equipment and processes meet current health and safety legislation. Use of 6 sigma principles to meet product, departmental and company objectives. Assessment of process efficiencies, TAKT time calculations, identification of critical spares, etc. Assessment of capex investment requirements and management of capex spend against identified budget. Prepare and conduct process verification plans utilising robust techniques including capability and SPC data. Communicate and action recommendations. Ensure all essential engineering evaluation is agreed, conducted, and recorded. Support Value Stream handover activities by facilitating training and instruction to manufacturing personnel for all new processes and equipment during product development and productionisation Work with Maintenance to ensure maximum uptime through the development of PM’s Define clear specifications/SOW for new tooling to aid the identification of suitable equipment suppliers and management of deliverables to agreed requirements. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of new technologies, process methodologies and materials. Understand the commercial significance of projects and prioritise resource accordingly. To maintain a high standard of communication with members of other teams, functional managers, customers, approval bodies, independent test facilities and suppliers to pursue and meet project objectives. Support, facilitate and action engineering change requests. Appreciate the importance of controlling costs and meeting customer requirements. Provide the Operations/Sustaining team with assistance in solving production issues through a structured problem-solving approach. Education Demonstrable rubber or plastic mould tool design experience with degree, HNC, HND or Apprenticeship in relevant subject disciplines including: Mechanical Engineering, process engineering, polymer technology Background And Skills Excellent verbal & written communication skills and ability to work across all levels of the business Technical knowledge of polymers & manufacturing processes. Analytical tool design experience with demonstrable evidence of related deployment Strong hands-on practical skills combined with an organised and self-starter approach to work Competence in at least one 3D CAD system Desirable 3D CAD experience in SolidWorks Knowledge of CAE & FEA techniques Hands on prototyping and test skills. Working knowledge of respirator product design Experience Experience working in tooling design & realisation with demonstrable experience in rubber or plastic moulding of production manufactured components.
