Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Colorectal Nursing teams for a Band 7 Colorectal Nurse Specialist. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong team ethos.
You will join our established Colorectal Nursing teams across the Trust providing specialist leadership, care, and support to a variety of colorectal patients. This will include those with both benign and malignant disease. It is a dual role requiring provision for both colorectal and stoma care patients. You will be acting as a source of expertise and knowledge to both patients and healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide professional specialist leadership and effective management of resources to ensure high standards of nursing care for all colorectal patients.
2. Utilize specialist knowledge and skills within the multidisciplinary management team, caring for patients with colorectal disease, both benign and malignant. This includes provision for colorectal and stoma care patients.
3. Offer compassionate, sensitive care addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
4. Act as a source of expertise and knowledge for patients and healthcare professionals.
5. Stay informed of current clinical research protocols, investigations, and procedures related to colorectal disease. Lead and teach others in implementing innovative practices.
6. Develop and implement clinical guidelines and standards.
7. Undertake research and lead clinical audits in your specialist area.
8. Support current Band 7 in the day-to-day management of existing services.
9. Participate in management of nurse-led cancer surveillance programs and RACC (Rapid Access Colorectal Cancer Pathway) Triage.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
* Registered Nurse (first level)
* BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent or working towards
* ENB 216 or equivalent (degree level specialist course) or willingness to undertake
* ENB 998 or equivalent
Qualifications (Desirable):
* Masters degree or equivalent
* Non-medical prescribing (V300)
* Cancer-related counselling course
* Willingness to undertake relevant courses such as physical assessment and history taking
Experience (Essential):
* Significant colorectal/stoma care experience at band 6 level
Experience (Desirable):
* Experience delivering education programmes
* Knowledge of clinical effectiveness and audit
* Experience in colorectal/general surgical ward
Specific requirements (Essential):
* Full driving license
* Ability to provide high-standard care with flexibility
* Articulate vision for colorectal service development
* Awareness of NHS changes
* Ability to work independently
* Commitment to multidisciplinary working
