This role involves providing expert advice and guidance to the Chair and Panel during Police Gross Misconduct Hearings, which are chaired by senior officers or staff following recent legislative changes (Police (Conduct) (Amendment) Regulations 2024). The appointed LQPs will assist with procedural issues and points of law.
Applications are sought from qualified legal professionals with experience or knowledge of relevant regulations, demonstrating integrity, independence, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The role covers police force areas including Hampshire, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, and Thames Valley, with up to 10 appointments for a four-year term to ensure sufficient hearing coverage across the region.
Applicants must meet the criteria outlined in s50 of the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 and be able to undertake hearings lasting up to a week. Training is provided, and attendance is mandatory prior to listing on the SE Region list. Successful candidates will undergo security checks and must not be personnel under police control or working for a Police and Crime Commissioner.
