Job Description:
Workplace Classification: Hybrid – this position requires onsite presence up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team: GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT software solutions for motorsports, enabling better collaboration among GM Global Engineering, Motorsports, and Race teams to achieve racing victories and apply learnings to vehicle development.
The Role: The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery, with expertise in scalable cloud systems, solution architecture, and motorsports software development, focusing on aerodynamics systems design.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead a team to develop GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis.
2. Design solution architectures and lead team consensus.
3. Focus on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks.
4. Identify and fill value gaps within the aerodynamics team with innovative solutions.
5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project delivery.
6. Manage Scrum story delivery, including architecture, interfaces, testing, and deployment.
7. Collaborate with team members and support overall project goals.
8. Maintain reliability and self-management in solution delivery.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
* Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
* Experience with full stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* At least 5 years in microservices development and 2 years in web services design.
* Proficiency with containerization tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
* Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in a technical field.
* Experience in aerodynamics engineering and AI/ML.
* Development with VR frameworks, data streaming tech, and cross-platform optimization.
* Leadership and architecture experience.
* Knowledge of data serialization and stateless system models.
* Passion for motorsports and high-paced environments.
