You will work alongside passionate Midwives whilst building rapport with women and their families and obtaining real job satisfaction.
We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic Maternity Assistants to join our team of Community Midwives at Bart’s Health, Whipps Cross Hospital. This post is a permanent contract and the applicant will be expected to work with the various community teams when required. Barts Health NHS Trust has a world-wide reputation for innovation in the care of mothers to be, each birth is very special to us and we strive to make every birth as normal as possible, no matter what the complications. Our local community is home to families from a diverse mix of ethnicity, social and health needs.
Whipps Cross Hospital is situated in East London and we have easy access to very good public transport links. We provide Maternity Services to approximately 4900 women a year and accommodate our women in very modern up to date facilitates. We have co-located midwifery-led unit and are working towards integration of the community midwifery services.

Main duties of the job
Assist with care of women under the direction and supervision of Midwifery trained staff in the hospital and community. With the support of the midwifery team, maternity health care assistant will have the skills and the knowledge to support women in pregnancy and postnatal period, to support them on making healthy choices for themselves and their babies. The maternity Health care assistant will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care of the mothers and their babies in support of and under the general supervision of the midwife.
To support the midwife in providing antenatal and postnatal support to the individual mothers and small groups of women
The post holder may be expected to be rotated to all areas within maternity with some weekend and evening commitments as required by the service

 1. Demonstrate basic numeric and literacy skills
 2. NVQ level 3 or equivalent or working towards training at a later date
