Mill Road Surgery in Colchester are seeking an efficient and highly organised medical secretary to join our dynamic team to work on a part-time basis. Hours to be discussed at interview. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our practice, supporting our medical staff, and providing excellent service to our patients.
Responsibilities
* Provide administrative support to doctors and other healthcare professionals
* Prepare and manage correspondence, including letters, emails, and reports
* Maintain and update patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy
* Handle telephone and face‑to‑face enquiries from patients, healthcare professionals, and external agencies
* Process referrals, tasks, and incoming emails from patients and third‑party providers
* Assist in the preparation of medical documents
* Ensure the practice's policies and procedures are adhered to, particularly in relation to patient confidentiality and data protection
* Coordinate with other staff members to ensure a seamless patient experience
Mill Road Surgery has a practice list size of over 18,000 patients and uses SystmOne.
Qualifications
* Previous experience as a secretary or a role of similar nature
* Excellent organisational and time‑management skills
* Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of SystmOne is also desirable
* Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
